Discover Hwange National Park

Situated in the north-western corner of Zimbabwe, about 200 kilometres south of Victoria Falls (250 kilometres north-west of Bulawayo), and covering an area of more than 14,500 square kilometres - often compared, but not quite, the size of Wales - Hwange National Park is the country’s largest National Park and a haven for wildlife. The area supports over 100 larger mammal species, including the 'big five,' and more than 400 bird species.

Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe's premier safari destination, and is certainly worthy of comparison with South Africa's Kruger and Botswana's Chobe National Parks. The park is dominated by Kalahari sand formations, with mixed bush and woodland interspersed with shallow drainage lines and vlei grassland valleys. This mixed mosaic of habitats supports a wealth of wildlife and offers amazing game viewing options, including the 'Big Five' (although rhino sightings are increasingly rare), zebra, giraffe and a variety of antelope species. The park is famed for its elephant population, which it shares with neighbouring Botswana, and also its lions, who have become dry season specialist elephant hunters.

The Park is part of an largely unfenced and unbounded region extending north to the Victoria Falls and west into neighbouring Botswana, and forming one of the largest and most important transfrontier conservation areas in the world. This extensive wilderness is home to Africa's largest population of elephants, and supports significant numbers of lion, wild dog, cheetah and many other species of conservation concern.

Our aim is to promote wildlife tourism to Hwange National Park and to support conservation and community projects on the ground - visit our Good Causes page for more information.
